Burn Brightly
On August 11, my sister and I joined my dad's side of the family for a memorial reception honoring my grandfather. It was a good time of visiting with friends and family we don't see much, and the day was kind of surreal too. While we celebrated Gumpa's 94 years of life by remembering his work, marriage, family and hobbies, there was a wedding going on outside our meeting room (which overlooked the lake Gumpa loved). We held babies and played with little kids. We congratulated cousins on their new marriages and jobs. It was a collision-of-life day. And a good reminder that our time here is brief... we burn through our days so quickly.
It seemed fitting that we ended it by walking down to the lake and watching a huge fireworks show. Gumpa would have wanted to go out with a bang.
